Opportunity Walking Volunteer - supporting guided walks at our places
Where: White Peak, Home Farm Ilam, Ashbourne, Staffordshire, DE6 2AZ
The National Trust in the White Peak looks after some of the Peak District’s most loved places, including Ilam Park and Dovedale National Nature Reserve. Encompassing hills and valleys, rivers and crags, the National Trust aims to look after these beautiful places and make them somewhere that everyone can enjoy. The staff and volunteer team work together to deliver an excellent experience for visitors, and also to conserve and protect the landscape. We welcome visitors from across the country who are seeking nature, beauty, adventure and solace, and are committed to welcoming staff and volunteers from all backgrounds to work with us.

Role summary: Are you passionate about walking and inspiring others to get active, outdoors and connect with nature? We are creating a team to support setting up and delivering walks across the White Peak - including at Ilam Park and Dovedale
What's involved? Coming along to one of our upcoming walk leader training sessions, which will cover everything you need to know to lead or support walks in a fund, well-managed, safe and inclusive way. The date of our next course is Friday 23rd February, but don't worry if you can't make that date!
Once you've completed your training, we'd love you to get involved in our walking offer, whether that's leading the walk or helping to make sure it is safe and enjoyable. All walks have a leader and a back marker.
If you want to, you can be involved in planning routes and using your knowledge to create and lead a guided walk. Or you may rather lead one of our shorter wellbeing walks at Ilam Park, or be a back marker.
Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines e.g .Covid
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So, volunteers will:
• Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
• Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
• Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website
This role will suit you if you are... Passionate about the outdoors and enjoy inspiring others to go walking
Reasonably fit and healthy; able to carry a small backpack and first aid kit
Keen to develop the National Trust's focus on developing inclusive offers to reach more diverse audiences
Can adapt your approach and info to suit different situations and audiences
Enthusiastic about your local environment and are an ambassador for the National Trust's cause to look after special places for everyone, for ever.
Available to volunteer on a regular basis
Have access to your own vehicle due to the remote locations of some of our walk locations
Aspire to be a key player in developing this exciting new project
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to:
Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us.
Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training.
Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
