The Theatre Group has been suspended for the time being.

Peter and Pauline are currently unable to devote any time to arranging theatre trips

If anyone wishes to do so on a short or long term basis Peter is willing give any advice that is required. He has been organising this group for over 6 years and can explain how he orders the coach and tickets and fixes the prices of these. Please contact him via the Leader or Group email link above.

Mavis Lund is very happy to give help with the webpage to anyone who volunteers.

Peter and Pauline periodically arrange theatre visits open to all members of Ashbourne u3a (subject obviously to availability of tickets), usually to include transport. So far, we have seen "Abigail's Party", "One Man, Two Guvnors", "Ladies of Letters" and "Brassed Off", all at Derby, "Blood Brothers", "Calendar Girls", "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em", "Chicago", "Fatal Attraction", "The Verdict", "The Full Monty" and "Noises Off", all at Nottingham, "The Lady Vanishes" at Stoke, J B Priestley's "An Inspector Calls" and Gilbert and Sullivan's "Yeomen of the Guard" both at Buxton, "Billy Elliot" and "42nd Street" at Leicester, and Ayckbourn's "Family Album" at Newcastle under Lyme, .

Peter and Pauline would welcome suggestions from members for future trips.

The Club will make a provisional booking of a quantity of tickets with the theatre. Tickets will only be definitely booked with the theatre once the number of members wanting to go on the trip is known and such members have paid the Club the total price of the ticket and of the transport. Tickets will be allocated by the Club in the sequence in which members order them by email or post and on condition that payment reaches the Club by the prescribed deadline. We never now collect names on a board at a monthly meeting. Cheques should be in favour of "Ashbourne and District u3a". Payment by internet is also now feasible.

Inevitably therefore trips and deadlines for paying for tickets will be announced quite some time in advance of the trip. While updates will be announced on this website and in future newsletters, information about trips will invariably be more frequently updated on this website. Therefore this website will be the best source for up to date detailed information. Any club member may participate in theatre trips and will be placed on the group’s email circulation list if they notify Peter and Pauline by email by clicking on the blue envelope if they want to be amongst the first to receive details about our future trips.

Tickets will be non-returnable unless a waiting list of members has arisen.

Tickets will be for members' use only. Therefore, if a member wishes to buy a ticket for a non-member's use, that non-member is requested to join Ashbourne u3a by paying the appropriate annual subscription, obviously becoming entitled to all the other advantages of such membership.

The committee realise that not all members may wish to travel on the coach organised by the Club. Nevertheless, the majority of members do want such transport to be arranged. Therefore the price for the trip will represent the total cost (after any available discount) of both the theatre ticket and the transport. Any member preferring to travel independently will be required to pay that total price. If any member indicates when ordering a ticket such member's preference to travel independently, that member will receive a refund of the cost of the transport after the trip has taken place if the quantity of theatre tickets bought by members exceeded the capacity of the coach, in consequence of which that member did in fact travel independently.

While it is appreciated that not all members have an email account or access to this website, Peter & Pauline can only fairly accept orders for tickets if they are made in writing either by email, post or on any board displayed at a monthly meeting. With a Club membership of over 600, phone calls or casual remarks to Peter or Pauline made when encountering them somewhere will be too disruptive to their own lives and will only lead to errors and oversights.

A member without an email account or access to this website should ask a friend (or younger member of the family!) to keep such member informed of announcements on this website page, to offer to Peter and Pauline such friend's email address as the means by which to contact such member, and to email Peter and Pauline as necessary on behalf of that member.
