Line Dancing

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
Group email: Line Dancing group
When: Weekly on Monday evenings
7 to 9 pm
Venue: Yeldersley Hall
Cost: £2

The line dancing group is lucky to be able to use the function room at the lovely venue of Yeldersley Hall on Monday evenings from 7-9pm. This was the view through the window during a session in mid May - gorgeous!

The group has been running since September 2018. During the Covid lockdown we managed to keep going by using Zoom for OnLine Dancing sessions in our kitchens and living rooms - not quite the same!

We dance to a wide variety of music. Most dances are of beginner level, with the occasional improver level thrown in to keep our longer term members on their toes. A list of all that we have learned over the years, which includes the tracks used, is shown on the Dances pages.

New members are very welcome, it's good exercise for both mind and body so contact Sue using the link on this page if you'd like to give it a try.

Please note there wll be no session on 22nd June.

Members are encouraged to join our WhatsApp group so that we can decide whether to call off sessions in the event of adverse weather.

  1. It's a workout.
Line dancing is good exercise incorporating coordination and balance. Steps can be adapted to suit the dancers' abiities.
  2. It's good for mental health.
Line dancing has been shown to boost mental wellbeing, reduce anxiety and depression and relieve stress. This is largely due to the release of endorphins during exercise.
  3. It’s social, but you don’t need a partner.
You can turn up alone, but it's not a solitary activity.
  4. It's a workout for your brain too.
There is a sense of achievement when you master the steps for a new dance. There is some evidence that it may improve memory and brain function and help to prevent dementia.
  5. It's good fun!
