The aim is to arrange one-off experiences, open to all members, to encourage people to challenge themselves, keep learning new things or just try new experiences that they haven't had the opportunity to do previously.
It will be a social group where we encourage teamwork and cooperation. We aim to have a buddy system for each activity, so that no one feels isolated or out of their depth on the day of the activity. This should make it easier for members new to the group, on their own or members who have been unable to persuade anyone else to go on a particular activity with them.
Each activity will be costed in advance, so that members know exactly how much money will be involved. Once an activity (which could last from a few hours up to a full day) is costed for a certain date, members will have 48 hours to pay the deposit to enable us to secure the event, the balance being payable by a date set by the provider.
In cases where we are buying into service providers, the activity would fall under their insurance and at the outset they would be asked to advise on physical limitations etc in the case of activities involving physical activity. Individual members should decide if they are up to the challenge and could meet the health and safety requirements of the provider.
We know that we have a lot of members with all sorts of talents. It may well be that we have members who, although they don't want the responsibility or commitment of leading a group themselves, are happy to offer a few hours of their time demonstrating how to do a certain activity. If this is you, please let us know.
We know that some of our existing groups already arrange outings to museums, theatres, gardens etc and we are not setting up in competition with them, rather offering something that wouldn't otherwise fall within their remit..We hope that there will be something for everyone
We'd like to know what you think. If there's something that you've always wanted to try but haven't got round to, for whatever reason, please let Liz Hoof or Clare Hamilton know by email. It doesn't matter how big or small, or how daft it might seem, we'd love to know. We will then draw up a list of the most popular ideas, look into them and get back to you all.

ACTIVITY REPORTS
June 2026 - Gliding
6 of our group tried gliding for the first time at Sleighford Airfield, organised by the Staffordshire Gliding Club. The flight was arranged at very short notice, following a cancellation and we hope to run a similar experience next year.
After a safety briefing, we were taken to the airfield where we were strapped into parachutes before climbing into gliders and being launched by a winch into the sky, at more than the speed of an F1 racing car. Once airborne, we enjoyed panoramic views of the countryside, unspoilt by any engine noise, before returning to terra firma. An exhilarating experience all round.
