Choir

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
Group email: Choir group
When: Fortnightly on Thursday afternoons
2pm - 4pm
Venue: Wyaston Village Hall
Cost: A small subscription, paid in Sept and early Feb, usually £10 or £15, to cover the cost of the Hall and new music.

We usually meet at Wyaston Village Hall.
Janet Bunting and Anna Raindorp will be sharing the administration.

We sing a variety of music -traditional, folk songs, songs from the shows. Most pieces are in 2 parts, some in unison. Enthusiasm is more important than a high level of musical ability. You don't need to be able to read music as we practise each part separately a few times, then put the parts together. No-one will ever be asked to sing on their own. We have a tea break for about 20 minutes in the middle of the practice, so you get chance to chat and have a breather.
New members are always welcome. The first two meetings in the New Year - Thursdays 15th and 29th January 2026, would be good times for new members to come along as we will be starting a new set of music, but new members will be able to join in at any time, as we usually have a couple of pieces that we are quite competent with, a couple we are part way through learning, and a couple that are either brand new or we have only practised once, so new members would be at the same stage as everyone else on these.

There is a small subscription of £15 every 6 months to cover the cost of the Hall and downloading/printing music.
Any interested members please contact Janet Bunting or come along to a meeting.

In Spring 2026 we will be singing:

  • Cape Cod
  • Seashell, tell me your tale
  • Turn, Turn, Turn (To everything there is a season)
  • 2 Irish Folk songs - Dulaman and As I was going to Bandyrowe
  • Down by the Riverside - an African-American Spritual
  • Put on your Sunday Clothes ( from Hello Dolly)
  • Dashing Away with the Smoothing Iron
  • Feed the Birds (from Mary Poppins)

All these are written in two-parts, for Soprano and Alto/Bass. Most songs start in unison with everyone singing the tune, then the tune alternates between the two parts and the other part adds some harmony.
