Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
Group email: Art - Painting for Pleasure group
When: On Tuesday afternoons 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
September to June. 2-4pm
Venue: Mayfield Memorial Hall

This art group meets weekly on Tuesday afternoons 2-4 pm in the Meeting Room at the Mayfield Memorial Hall. There will be a 2 week break at Christmas and Easter. There are no half-term breaks.

Each month two themes can be set for those that wish to rise to the challenge, for others they may wish to paint from their own photographs or other material. There is a charge per member per month to cover the cost of room hire and refreshments. If members attend regularly it will be possible to reduce this charge. Please register your interest with the leader by clicking on the leader’s name above.

Mutual help or advice can be provided by the members but assumes a general understanding of either watercolour or acrylic painting or pencil work has been acquired. All levels above complete beginners are welcome. Hopefully you will get lost in the process of creating art as it can have huge benefits for our mental health. There are no taught sessions but some printed material is available if you require inspiration about what to paint, particularly useful if you have limited opportunities to get out and about to take your own photographs. A number of projects are available with written instructions on how to proceed together with illustrations for each stage. This material can provide members with opportunities to develop their artistic side. Some members have experimented with collage and other media and taken inspiration from the natural environment and the close proximity of the Peak District. You will probably enjoy the peace whilst members are concentrating on their pictures but particularly in the refreshment break there will be plenty of opportunity to have a chat, discuss your work etc. Please note that due to ventilation issues we cannot accommodate soft pastel or oil painting.
