Stop Press: The 14 day Weather Forecast for Kinder Scout is not looking very good at all: Rain, Thunder Storms and Cloud. I was hoping for the weather to stay dry and fine. If it doesn't improve drastically then we postpone and will endeavour to walk around Edale/Barber Booth.
Why?: This walk has been on my bucket list 🪣 since I migrated to Derbyshire, and I have had feedback that if I were able to make it happen it would be well supported by our regular group walkers. Therefore, here is my effort to tick ✔ all the usual boxes and bring them as close to the NORM as possible and still get at least a view of Kinder Scout (National Trust). We are also in celebration of the 75th year of the Peak District National Park (1951) and the memory of the infamous Kinder Mass Trespass (1932). The grandkids may still be in their last week of holiday, but I didn't want to leave it too late and miss the best of the weather, such as it is. There is of course the original 1932 Kinder Scout Mass Trespass route, which is an 8 to 9-mile circular trail starting from Bowden Bridge near Hayfield, heading past Kinder Reservoir up William Clough, and reaching the plateau where the historic protest for the right to roam took place. It could be shortened and a start from the George Hotel Hayfield, but that's another day 🤭😁
Getting There: The drive from Ashbourne (A515 - Buxton) to the start point will take just over 1 hour (34 miles) and the actual walk distance is longer than normal (7.03-miles) this impacts our usual timings so please note all the time changes from the NORM. NB: Better book the whole day. 😎
Car Pool: The Car Pool will leave the far end (The Range) of the Waterside Car Park at 08:00 Sharp and the Walk will start at 09:15 sharp, so have the alarm and boots on early and ready to go. Best have a hearty breakfast and be prepared for a steady, but brisk walk as we may wish to stop at various points for the view and water, and of course be not too late for lunch.

Details of walk: The target distance for this walk is approximately 7 miles - 4hr 25min, with Moderate Difficulty Terrain. Starting in Edale West along the Pennine Way, Jacob's Ladder, Kinder / Gritstone Edges, Crowden Tower and Grindsbrook Clough to the pub for lunch. This route is classified by the National Trust as a Challenging Walk, which is generally over 5 miles, and the terrain may be challenging such as moorland or rough ground. Navigational experience may be required. Some of these walks may be on relatively easy terrain but are made challenging by the distance. Paths are generally good but rugged, on this circular route. Some challenging steep ascents and descents. Good fitness level and hill-walking clothing and footwear are essential..

Kinder Scout is a moorland plateau and National Nature Reserve in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District in England. Part of the moor, at 636 metres (2,087 ft) above sea level, is the highest point in the Peak District, in Derbyshire and the East Midlands.
