DEALING WITH PROBLEMS

Accidents and Illness:

If an incident occurs which results in injury to a person or damage to property, report it verbally as soon as possible to your Groups’ Co-ordinator or the Secretary, following up with a detailed written report which includes details of any witnesses. This is because in future the incident may become the subject of an insurance claim.

The insurance provided by The Third Age Trust does not cover personal injury or accident. It only provides liability cover where there has been proven negligence on the part of Ashbourne u3a (including yourself as leader).

While leaders and fellow members will hopefully try to use reasonable endeavours to support each other in the event of a medical or other incident, they must avoid playing the role of a carer providing assistance. They are not insured to do so. Neither you as leader nor fellow members nor u3a can accept responsibility for actions taken or not taken. The u3a is not a social care organisation.

Behaviour:

If you have a difficult member whose behaviour is regularly disturbing other members of the group, speak to your Groups’ Co-ordinator for advice. Do not take action yourself.

However, if you have a serious problem in a group session, it is quite acceptable to ask a member to leave. If you do, contact your Groups’ Co-ordinator as soon as possible after the end of the session.

If you have a member who is not able to cope independently, inform your Groups’ Co-ordinator.
